چکیده

Streptococcus mutans have been proposed as the main causative agent of dental cavities. Dental caries is among the most common diseases in the world, this study was done to determine whether PCR analysis is useful to identify and even classify oral and other streptococci. 20 dental plaque samples were collected from teeth, 10 normal sample and 10 from persons with oral problems. The samples were diluted and plated in Mitis-Salivary media, Bacterial DNA was extracted from all specimens, then analysed by PCR with 16s universal primer and S. mutans serotype-specific primer sets. Then it was sequenced, The strains reported in this paper were identified as S. mutans on the basis of the fact that the sequence generated was Streptococcus mutans.

Effect of Isolated Specific Lytic Phage against Growth and Biofilm Inhibition of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sanguinis Isolated from Decayed Dental Plaque

Background and purpose: Despite advances in oral health and dental industry, tooth decay remains one of the most common oral diseases. One of the new methods to combat dental plaque, which is the main cause of caries, is using specific lytic bacteriophage. This study aimed to investigate the effect of isolated specific lytic phage against growth and biofilm inhibition of Streptococcus mutans an...

Identification of Streptococcus mutans serotypes in dental plaque by fluorescent antibody techniques.

The presence of Streptococcus mutuns in dental plaque may be related to human dental caries. The cultural identification of this organism in plaque is not likely to be used routinely in a clinical or epidemiological situation. In an effort to develop a simpler diagnostic means of identifying Strep. mutans in plaque, antisera were prepared for the 5 known serotypes of Strep. mutuns. These immune...

Phenotypic and Molecular Identification of Non- Mutans Streptococci Organisms Recovered on Mitis-salivarius Bacitracin Agar from Caries Active Subjects

Dental caries is one of the most common oral infectious disease affecting humans worldwide and Mutans Streptococci (MS) have been implicated as major cariogenic bacteria. The “low-pH non-Mutans Streptococci Organisms (non-MSO) have been identified as atypical strains in caries plaque samples, in the absence of MS group. The non-MSO usually competes with MS group for colonizing on the tooth surf...
